Apartment, Strathmore Ave
The design of this 2-bedroom apartment for a couple in their 30s draws inspiration from natural materials applied in a contemporary way. Each of the spaces are demarcated by a “colour block” of muted, earthy tones, such as soft greys, warm beiges, and gentle greens to provides a serene backdrop. These neutral hues are punctuated by strategic pops of vibrant colors like tan yellows, coral blues, and rich burgandys, which infuse energy and create visual interest without overwhelming the senses.
Located at a high floor, one of the existing bedrooms was removed to extend the living space and to create expansive vistas overlooking the city. A stepped platform with dividing curtains was added to not only provide additional storage, but to establish a hierarchy of public/private space that allows the user to retreat inward as desired.
Birch plywood platform and carpentry is utilized in the Master Bedroom for its warm tones and beautiful natural wood grains to create a sanctuary for blissful rest. To complement the modern Kitchen, the walls are coated with textured plaster; a bar counter in polished natural Versilys marble was added for additional counter top space or as an additional area for work in this compact home.
